So, as part of our “Best time to” series, today we are coming to you with the answer to every budding Instagrammer’s first question. What is the best time to post on Instagram?

To come up with the answer, we have looked closely at several studies across the internet; today we are going to present you with our findings and what we consider the most important and valid.

As with all major social networks, Instagram is contently changing their algorithm, so your strategy might work for you today but keep by testing, measuring, and refining to stay on top of the game.

You worked hard on your excellent photos, they are eye-catching and ready to be shared with the world, but there is no point in posting it unless everyone is online and willing to share, like, comment and follow you. So, what is the best time to post your photo or video?  According to the Pew Research Center, 50% of Instagram’s users use the Instagram app every day.

Study #1 the website Hubspot found that the best days to post on Instagram were generally Mondays and Thursdays. Mondays and Thursday were not very time specific so you can post all day, except between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm where there was a considerable slowdown.

For those of us posting videos, it turns out much to our surprise the best time to post Instagram videos is between 9:00 pm and 8:00 am. It seems that people no longer mix work with Instagram video pleasure.

Other services don’t always have the same finding and as Instagram doesn’t have any official stats here are a few other companies findings.

Following a request from The Huffington Post, Latergramme, a service that lets users manage and schedule Instagram posts, ran an analysis of over 61,000 posts to determine the when photos received the most “likes” and comments.

On average Latergramme found that the best time to post a photo to get this kind of interaction was between 2:00 am and 5:00 pm. The best day was Wednesday, but it was not a “out a right win”, The other days were not far behind.

Sprout Social also did a similar study and found that Instagram posts tend to get the most engagement on:

  • Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
  • Thursday at 5:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday at 5:00 a.m.

In Sprout Social’s study above you can see that on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:00 am to about 6:00 pm, and from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturdays, posts are getting moderate to high engagement.

OK, I know that all of that is confusing and not everything will work in the same way for everyone. But from these three studies, our own experience and several others, we estimate that the best times to post is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and probably to post several times a day.

A couple of things to remember when posting:

  • The morning commute: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Late-nighters: 2:00 a.m.
  • End of the 9-to-5 workday: 5:00 p.m.

What about the worst day to post on Instagram?

We have spoken about the best and here is the worst *[drum roll]*. All, studies we have read and our research surprisingly show that the worst day is Sunday.

Sunday is a weird day, most people are at home so you would think there would be more Instagram love out there but the facts are all pointing to the contrary.

We hope this helps you with your posting efforts, good luck Instagramming.
